Uranus is a funny major planet . And not just because it has a mistily insinuation - y name in the English language . It is dead peculiar in its own rightfulness . One of its eldritch features   is its inclination . Uranus rotates around the Sun on its side , with each pole face the Sun for 42 years before shift . The grounds of this eldritch tilt has long been suspected to be a hit , and a   new study gives details   of the impact .

As reported in theAstrophysical Journal , an international team used advanced computer simulation to regurgitate what has been observe on the ice giant planet . After using 50 different impact scenarios , they believe that Uranus was hit by an objective roughly twice as massive as Earth , most belike made of rock and ice . This happened around 4 billion years ago   when the Solar System was still quite youthful .

The impact did n’t just influence   the tilt . The researchers believe that it can also explain the amazingly modest temperature of the satellite . The rubble from the impactor might act as a thermic shield , trap the heat from the major planet ’s interior and making the outer atm extremely cold .

The impingement might also have play a function in the formation of the planet ’s rings and synodic month . Such an impact could have thrown enough material into orbit to coalesce into some of the inner lunation . It might have also modify pre - existing moon eye socket .
