The Statue of Liberty – endue to the USA by France in 1884 – is one of the most recognizable monuments in the world .
Picture it , and you probably see its distinctive shade of green ( though ithasn’t always been so ) , the flannel mullein symbolizing enlightenment , and the distinctive crown placed upon her head . You may even remember the Emma Lazarus poemThe New Colossus , placed on the memorial in1903 , forever linking the statue to in-migration in hoi polloi ’s brain .

One characteristic that gets dominate is the mountain chain at the statue ’s feet , which is a shame as they comfortably capsulize the original intention of the memorial itself . Édouard de Laboulaye , who first proposed the talent , wanted to celebrate100 years of independency , but also the much more recent abolition of thrall .
