The mission proved to be unsuccessful after the group ran out of ammunition and the Front Man posing as Young-il finally double crossed them to assume his true position. The finale left on a major cliffhanger, and saw Gi-hun wailing as the Front Man killed Jung-bae in front of him in cold blood.

In a conversation with PEOPLE in December 2024, Lee opened up about his character’s evolution and how he has navigated Gi-hun’s mental and emotional transformations.

“Portraying Gi-hun in season one was a little more fun and enjoyable because he’s got that positive and cheerful energy and it’s less stressful to convey those characters,” he recalled. “And in season two, he was the other way around, and it actually made my heart quite heavy.”

“Should I go deeper or should I be a more sharper kind of character, or should I be just focused on the mission of putting an end to the game? It gave me a lot of stress,” he admitted. And Gi-hun appears as a very sensitive person this time around, so he could actually physically feel the aches. So it required a lot of effort."

Though a trailer for season 3 has yet to be released, Netflix shared a 15-second teaser with fans onXin January 2025.

The brief clip revealed a new character: Chul-su — a male counterpart to the terrifying killer doll Young-hee.
