Nicolas Cagestrolled down the red carpet hand-in-hand with wifeRiko Shibataat the2024 Oscarson Sunday.
The couple appeared very close, with Cage, 60, sporting a classic tuxedo and Shibata, 28, donning a unique black and gray textured gown paired with a gem-covered black purse.
The Oscar-winning actor toldFlaunt Magazinein October 2021 that he had met Shibata through mutual friends while in Shiga, Japan, where he was filming the 2021 moviePrisoners of the Ghostland.
Cage said on his brotherMarc Coppola’s radio showin August 2020 that he proposed to Shibata via FaceTime.
“She left New York and went back to Kyoto, Japan, and I went back to Nevada and I haven’t seen her for six months,” Cage said on the podcast. “We were really happy together and we were really excited to spend that time together so I finally just said, ‘Look, I wanna marry you,’ and we got engaged on FaceTime,” he said.
The actor also explained he gave Shibata a black diamond ring and mailed it to Japan after proposing.

“Her favorite color is black so she wanted the black gold, and the black diamond,” he said at the time. “I found it and I customized and personalized it and I actually sent it to her via FedEx.”
The couple tied the knot on Feb. 16, 2021 in a “very small andintimate weddingat the Wynn Hotel in Las Vegas,” a rep for the actor told PEOPLE at the time.
The marriage is Cage’s fifth. “I know five is a lot, but I think I got it right this time,” he told theLos Angeles Timesthen.
Shibata and Cage went on to welcome their first child together, daughter August Francesca, on Sept. 7, 2022. This is the actor’s third child; he is already a dad to sons Kal-El, 18, and Weston, 33, from previous relationships. Shibata, 28, is a first-time mom.
