Jimmy Kimmelthrew a jokeRobert De Niro’s way during his2024 Oscarsmonologue — and it had to do with his girlfriend’s age.
Kimmel reminded the audience of theKillers of the Flower Moonactor’s classic 1976 filmTaxi Driver, which also starred a 12-year-oldJodie Foster.
“Here’s some fun Oscar trivia: 48 years ago, Robert De Niro and Jodie Foster were nominated forTaxi Driver,and they’re both nominated again tonight. 1976 was the year,” Kimmel said.
The host then joked, “In 1976, Jodie Foster was young enough to be Robert De Niro’s daughter. Now, she’s 20 years too old to be his girlfriend."

Foster, 61, got in on the joke with a playful nod of the head — seemingly affirming that she agreed with Kimmel’s crack about the 80-year-old Hollywood icon. She even mouthed, “It’s true.” De Niro had a laugh at the joke, too, throwing his head back with amusement.
Once inside the venue, Foster and De Niro shared a hug and kiss on the cheek.

“He called my mom about the part, and she thought he was crazy,” Foster previously toldVanity Fairabout De Niro’s role in herTaxi Drivercasting. “But I went in to meet him for an interview. My mom thought, with my school uniform on, there was no way he’d think I was right for it. But he said yes, and she trusted him.”
Foster was nominated for Best Actress in a Supporting Role forNyadduring the 2024 awards.
