When it comes to Star Trek , the ship is life-sustaining . We ’ve had the Enterprise . Then the Enterprise . Then a change with a space place in Deep Space Nine . And the Voyager . And then , oh look , Enterprise . And now we can tally Discovery to that list .
This new card descend as Star Trek : Discovery prepares to have its very own San Diego Comic - Con gore . We saw bit of the ship last class , but it was share as part of a larger Star Trek venire . Now the new-sprung show is all grow up .
I legitimately have a go at it the colouration on this poster — and the gentle homage that streaky rainbow pay to The Motion Picture .

We can also see that the design of Discovery has undergo a bit of a change since we first saw the ship at Comic - Con last year .
For one thing , you could n’t really tell in this image that the saucer section had a dual - hoop , whereas it ’s clearly got gaps in the unexampled bill sticker . The nacelles have change a honest bit — they’re pulled back and are more streamlined . The variable coloring on the Cordell Hull ( from metal plating , I guess ? ) is still there , but the light under the saucer is n’t pointing forward any longer . There ’s a whole lighted dome .
It ’s a sound design , and putting the nacelle below the saucer instead of over it , like in the original initiative , is n’t quite the same as Ralph McQuarrie’soriginal conception artfor a new enterprisingness , but it ’s similar . It ’s sort of like Enterprise , that design , and the original show ’s ship had a babe . A babe about to go where no one has gone before .

Star Trek : Discovery debuts September 24 .
