We loved ourGoPro HD Hero . It was simply the sweetest wearable military action camera we ’d reckon … until now . The brand name spankin ’ new Hero 2 is n’t dramatically different , they just made everything a lot well . I may never take it off .

Colors were right smart more vibrant and realistic , details were sharper , and luminance and contrast are much more balanced . The honest-to-god Hero had a tendency to be dampen out and blown out ; that does n’t occur anymore ( see first pee shot in the video ) . you may also now get a full 170 degree playing area of view while shooting 1080p , and it has more options for physical body - rates and sizes . It can shoot stills at 11 megapixels vs 5 megapixels on the Hero 1 , and it can march range much faster , stand for you’re able to take a prison term - lapse with one shot every one-half - second , or you’re able to shoot 10 - shot - per - 2d flare-up .
The Hero ’s UI has been refine , making it much easier to define up . It ’s actual word on the little screen now , not incomprehensible abbreviations . There are now 4 LEDs that blink while you ’re register , so you recognise you ’re roll no matter which way it ’s look . The Hero 2 has added a mini HDMI out and some progress - in Wi - Fi awesomeness . GoPro ’s upcoming Wi - Fi BacPac will permit for remote mastery and realtime cyclosis from the Hero 2 , which is pretty scented . Lastly , the Hero 2 is the exact same sizing / shape / form as the Hero 1 , mean all of your Hero 1 accessories will fit just fine , include the LCD BacPac which let you to line up your snap and play them back . The Hero 2 perform badly in nighttime setting , as you may see in the Nox - biking shots at the end of the comparing television . Yes , it work the images promising than theContour ROAMit was next to , but it brings in a ton of noise and graininess to do it . Also , while the UI is exceedingly improved over its last looping , that ’s not saying a long ton . Navigating through the preferences is still a slow , clunky process . Also , the buttons can be blotto , which sometimes makes turning it on / off tougher .

Oww my ears ! At the default option setting the Hero 2 is super loud . I had to twist it down 4 - 7db in the telecasting because it was peaking like crazy . There ’s a setting for wind - decrease which I have n’t messed with yet , but it seems to me that the default should have a flake less increase . Also , while it ’s great that there ’s a mounting system for virtually every app you’re able to recall of , it ’s worth noting that setting these up is not always easy and visceral . To mount it to my hold bars I would have had to put a strange 90 - level extender on it that would have made it passing unstable . Instead I choose to pay heed it upside down from a measure - end , which was n’t ideal .
Should I Buy It ?
Bottom business : this thing is cause of death . While I still want to do some more examination to be indisputable , if I had to find fault one from all the sport cams presently on the market , I ’d grab this one . The image it submit are nifty . It ’s not just HD - sized , it actually looks HD . I like theContour ROAMa lot , but the Hero 2 has more alternative and the image tone just wins . Notes on the Comparison Video :
-There are great undulation and great surfboarder in Hawaii , and there are outstanding trail and peachy mountain rockers in Colorado . I ’m a blogger and I live in Brooklyn . solve with what I ’ve got here .
-This TV is compressed somewhat , but if you watch it at 1080p it ’ll give you a pretty effective idea of how they compare .
-In the biking shot with the ROAM you ’ll notice that the vibration make the screen look almost liquid , where as the Heroes managed it pretty well . It ’s possible that this is because of the agency the ROAM was mount up ( a special rubber strap ) , or maybe the Heros just absorb shock better .
-I have n’t yet received my surf kit up for the ROAM so I had to leave it out of the piddle examination .
-The night shot were filmed on two freestanding dark . The ROAM had the disadvantage of it being somewhat rainy , but for my money it still looks better . The Hero 2 may be vivid , but the image look wicked .
