Game of Thrones ’ last season starts with an arrival long in the making and ends with a battle bighearted than any ever seen in film or telly . That ’s according to new details revealed inEntertainment Weekly ’s epic reportage of the highly awaited and even more secretivefinal time of year ofHBO’saward - winninghit show
There are no major spoilers here — everything revealed is passably legitimate — but just in case you desire to avoid take heed anything about the final season …
accord to the magazine , the first episode of the six - episode final season ( which , incredibly , still does n’t have a premiere date ) begins like this :
Season 8 opens at Winterfell with an episode that check raft of callback to the show ’s pilot film . Instead of King Robert ’s rise arriving , it ’s Daenerys and her army . What follow is a thrilling and tense intermingling of grapheme — some of whom have never antecedently met , many who have messy history — as they all prepare to face the inevitable intrusion of the Army of the Dead .
Another point of the arriver is that Sansa is , apparently , none too pleased that Jon has “ bent the human knee ” to Daenerys .
That , of course , is just the start of a news report — which leads to a moment tease since , literally , Game of Thrones ’ very first episode : a struggle between life and expiry . Westeros and the Army of the Dead . The battle will be “ the most free burning activity sequence ever made for television or film ” and will take up the entire plot of land of a single episode , with“Battle of the dickhead ” managing director Miguel Sapochnikat the helm .
Rumors about this sequence were reported in the press calendar month ago , but accord to Entertainment Weekly , those rumors of a two - calendar month shootwere grossly underestimate .
“ The 55 night were only for the battle ’s outdoor scenes at the Winterfell stage set , ” EW indite . “ Filming then move into the studio , where Sapochnik continued shooting the same battle for weeks after that . ”
But an episode that ’s just a single engagement could be dull . So that episode will also have “ intercuts between multiple characters affect in their own survival storylines that each feel like its own genre . ” Basically everyone is press the same conflict , and each has their own story .
From the sounds of it , though , that battle is not the ultimate finale . The finale is what find after , and was filming when EW ’s reporter was on set :
I look around at a meticulously constructed curing that I ’ve never see on the show before . Several actor are performing , and I ’m stunned : There are characters in the finale that I did not expect . I step by step start to put together together what has bump in Westeros over the previous five episodes and try not to look like I ’m freaking out . There is absolutely nothing more that can be said about that vista at this time .
