There are many , manythings untimely with thecuriously popular"theory " that the mankind is level . One that seems peculiarly timely properly now is the equinox quandary , given that the September equinoctial point occurred   just last weekend ( September 22 , to be exact )   – soLiveScienceinvestigated .

During the September equinox , the Sun span to the south over the celestial equator , marking the beginning of fall and bringing with it shorter days and longer Night . ( The paired occurs in March when the Sun cross northwards . ) Here ’s the matter : This seasonal bicycle kind of relies on the Earth being orotund ( or globular ) and having what is called anaxial contestation , which makes it an awkward enigma for anyone who believes the blue satellite is magnetic disc - shaped .

So , how on the dot do mat - Earthers   explain the September ( or , indeed , the March ) equinox ?

For fledgeling ,   flavourless - Earthers would suggest shrinking the sizing of the Sun .

Conventional wisdom would tell you that the Sun has a wheel spoke of around   695,700 kilometers ( 432,289 miles ) , though this may bean underestimate . It would also tell you that it is   149,600,000 kilometers ( 92,957,130 miles ) away from the Earth . Well , blank out that . Flat - Earthers believe ( or at least profess to believe ) that the Sun   is just 4,828 kilometers ( 3,000 miles )   – which would make it very near and very midget . To put it into perspective , the lunar month has a 1,737 - km ( 1,080 - naut mi ) radius and is   384,400 kilometers ( 238,955 mi ) aside from the Earth , 159 times further off from us than flat - Earthers say the Sun is .

On theFlat Earth Society Wikipedia   page , the generator describes the Sun as like a " spotlight " moving in band around the North Pole , which flat - Earthers think   sits straight in the Earth ’s center . When it ’s directly over your head , it is ( seemingly ) daytime . When it ’s not , it is nighttime .

To excuse the seasons , some flat - ground theory claim the Sun propel in a spiracular fashion ( see diagram below ) . When its orbit is close to the North Pole , the northern hemisphere experiences   summertime   – the days are farsighted and the nights are shorter . The reverse is true when the orbit is further away from the terminal . On the twenty-four hour period of the equinox , the Sun ’s orbit fits perfectly in rail line with the equator so that the hours of Clarence Day and Nox are equal on both sides of the equator .

The contestation does n’t arrest water at the best of time . AsLiveScienceand YouTube userWolfie6020point out , it would think that the Sun never really " circle " as such because it would never fully dip below the apparent horizon .

But it is especially tough to explicate during the equinoxes   when half the Earth ’s surface is cast in sunlight at any one time and both sunrise and sundown are immediately due east and due west everywhere except the poles . For this to happen on a bland - Earth , it would require some very interesting natural philosophy ( and bendy light ) – as YouTube userFlat Outexplains in the video below :

But will this explanation convince   prominent flat - Eartherslike the rapper B.o . Bthat the Earth is not actually flat ? belike not .
