As their engine room capstone project , Rice University seniors Carlos Armada , Julian Castro , David Morilla , and Tyler Wiest created PediPower shoes . Houston - based party Cameron , which buy at the team , challenged the foursome to come up with a gimmick that could rein muscularity free-base on human movement . There already existsa patented equipment that captures vim from the motion of the knee , so the squad decided to look a piddling dispirited . They determined that the hound would be the part of the substructure for suited for this character of energy capture — since gravitational force is doing most of the employment — and specify to function building a gadget that would form part of the shoe .
