Disposable Laptop Works Better as a Metaphor Than as an Actual Product

There ’s no incertitude about it : Today , the conception of adisposable laptopis totally ridiculous . But you know what else was ridiculous ? Disposable cameras,60 years ago . And this thing just await terrific , so I ’ll let it slide . Also : symbolism !

There are a pile of holes you could poke in this concept , like the flippant function of meaningless term like “ bio poker chip ” and buzzwords like “ overlap ” and “ gamy technology , ” and the fact that by the time lively components like the battery and display are cheap enough to hurl away — that’ll be 2020 , harmonise to the designer ’s completely arbitrary calculations — laptop , or whatever we ’re using , probably wo n’t be shaped like this .

But if you recollect about it , we ’re heading toward this form of design anyway : unconvincing , soil - cheap netbooks seem to have a short intended lifespan , and hell , even my polycarbonate MacBook felt like it was beginning to decompose after about two years of laborious use .
