Less than a twenty-four hours after we heard that Guillermo del Toro was set to start shooting At The Mountains of Madness as shortly as June , it turn out the studio apartment has balked at the $ 150 million cost tag and roentgen - rating .
According toDeadline , del Toro may signalise on to address Pacific Rim as his next project , instead of the H.P. Lovecraft adaption Mountains of Madness . Pacific Rimb is a freehanded “ tent magnetic pole - sized undertaking ” script by Travis Beacham ( Clash of the Titans ) with tons of monsters , original world - construction and a PG-13 rating .
Less than a daytime ago , we were hearing that Mountains of Madness was all set to go — but judging from the Deadline clause and what sources are telling us , it sound like the project fell apart at the very last arcminute . Deadline reports that Del Toro has given Universal a deadline of the end of the day today to settle whether to take a fortune on such an expensive horror movie — which would have to make $ 500 million worldwide to bust even . It does n’t sound very potential . The best hope is that del Toro will come back to Mountains after doing Pacific Rim , and mayhap by then the pricetag will have dropped .

Anyway , this is sucky news for everybody who was dying to see del Toro ’s visual sense of Lovecraft — and for del Toro , who ’s been stick in limbo for ages after walking forth from The Hobbit , only to see The Hobbit begin production without him .
