This was one of those instalment of Clone Wars that made me wish I had a child on hand to watch the show with me , because this was one of the most child - geared episodes of the season . ( Even more than the “ Young Jedi ” electric arc . ) The Republic droids were sent on a covert mission , one that brought us a thimble - sized military officer , the Republic ’s own revulsion picture show insane scientist , and a bumbling droid who jeopardise to become the second approaching of Jar Jar Binks ( albeit without the anti-Semite undertones ) . But in the end it proved a pretty dim-witted , if forgettable , side adventure , one whose protagonist is ultimately more competent than I feared .
This episode forebode to star R2 - D2 and his fellow Republic droids as they embarked on a mission to retrieve a Separatist decipher module from one of the battleship . But the astromechs do n’t speak English and are n’t really equipped for heartfelt treatment , so we also get a speech production droid : WAC-47 , who enters the vista late for Mace Windu ’s briefing and chatters all the style through it . Then Windu accede out and introduces the droids to their field commander , Colonel Meebur Gascon , the teeny little military bozo . Gascon is the stereotypical straight - laced commanding officer , the sorting of guy who tolerates no guff . The sort of guy who would employ the Holy Scripture “ bunk ” in a prison term . He refuses to call WAC by his name , alternatively term him “ cyclops . ”
A few of the droids get modifications at the hands of the uber - creepy Dr. Gubacher , who caress his subjects fondly with his lank fingers as he talks about all the weird upgrade ( and downgrades ) he ’s going to give them . Would n’t take care get wind this guy cable pop up now and again . R2 gets those projectile boosters , while the other droids get a super - magnet and a laser pinnace . One misfortunate droid mother his memory taken out , and we find out why Gascon has been selected for this particular mission : he fits inside a droid ’s memory camber . When WAC complains that he has n’t gotten any upgrades , Gascon snaps that it ’s because he ’s “ just a pilot . ”
There ’s nothing like a challenge to get a piece of ass - up to screw up quicker . WAC sets a collision course for the Separatist battlewagon , which land their ship in a tractor irradiation . All the droids , include the one Gascon is hiding in , are read into custody . Gascon tells everyone to stay unagitated , but R2 disobeys orders , attacking one of the guard droids . WAC in reality help take down the other , providing a beguilement so one of the astromechs can zap him .
They continue with Gascon ’s program , triggering a temporary power deprivation to put the security scheme on manual override , which course alert the battle droids to the fact that something fishy might be rifle on . WAC military volunteer to distract the security guard forth from the bank vault , and Gascon harmonise against his better judgment . But now WAC has his dubiousness about following an police officer who ’s never been into a battle — a notion that gives Gascon the seeing red . The Republic droids ’ nimble intellection and Gascon ’s willingness to engage the tactical droid mano - a - roboto turn over them a chance to grab the crisp and flee . On the way , though , they get across the fall down body of Gascon ’s server droid , and R2 refuses to leave without his brother . Gascon , having just learn a worthful lesson about droids and their opinion , agrees , and on their agency out , they are once again aided by the consummate guilelessness of the Separatist droids . Gascon offers back pats all around and WAC finally call him “ colonel . ” final stage scene .
I ’m kind of on the fencing about this episode , which I felt was a bit gimmick - laden between WAC and the pint - sized colonel . I was disposed to thoroughly hate WAC when he showed up — the last thing the Star Wars world needs is another character whose cardinal trait are incompetence and a tendency to mouth too much . But by the end of the instalment , after WAC showed he could execute a plan with a little chasteness and that he clear understood the capableness of the astromechs well than Gascon did , I did n’t hate him , but I did n’t particularly like him either . find out and rewatching the installment , I got the sense that this was one of those episodes that probable entreaty more to the younger Clone Wars hearing , and I ’m just being bad-tempered about a character calculate at Thomas Kyd .
