Xiaomi , Huawei , Oppo , and Vivo are teaming up to build a Google Play alternative that would allow developers to upload their apps to the companies ’ smartphones at once , Reuters reported Thursday .

Huawei , Xiaomi , Oppo , and Vivo ( the latter two of which are have by the same parent company ) make up about 40 % of the smartphone food market and have tree unlike regions . Xiaomi is huge in India ; Huawei in Europe ; and Oppo and Vivo in China . The new app platform would give developers more exposure in those markets . Reuters noted that the GDSA app storehouse will be available in nine area , include Russia and India .
Google take a 30 % cut of apps sold in the Google Play store , just as Apple does with its App Store . It ’s undecipherable if the GDSA will lower its revenue snub to appeal to developer . Google gather close to $ 9 billion in Google Play revenue in 2019 . Apple earn about $ 15 billion from the App Store last year , according to aCNBC estimate . Services are a develop earnings stream for computer hardware companies , and the GDSA coalition does n’t want to be left out .
The move is also good for Huawei , which was abbreviate off from Google services last yr after the U.S. government take for doing business with the Chinese society a internal security peril . Huawei is trying to prove it can run without Google , recentlyinking a deal with TomTomto replace Google Maps and building its ownalternative to Android called HarmonyOS . That operating system is not compatible with Android apps , so developer will still need to create newfangled version when Huawei eventually rolls out its Android competition . A new app platform that cover four of the largest speech sound company ’ devices would provide a safe bonus for devs to do just that .
