Say auf wiedersehen to Enceladus : TheCassini spacecrafthas finished its final flyby of themysterious icy synodic month of   Saturn . After welcome streams of data point over the weekend , NASAhas showcased some of the most beautiful astrophotography taken by the probe . Passing at a distance of 4,999 kilometers ( 3,106 nautical mile ) from the surface of the moon , the final series of images reveals the world ’s furrows and ridge in impeccable item .

“ This final Enceladus flyby elicits feeling of both unhappiness and victory , ” said Earl Maize , Cassini project managing director at NASA ’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory ( JPL ) , in astatement . “ While we ’re sorry to have the close flybys behind us , we ’ve placed the capstone on an unbelievable tenner of investigating one of the most intriguing body in the Solar System . ”
