An episode of Clone Wars in which the good guys lost , the best theatrical role were n’t ripped off from the movies and Ahsoka was n’t annoying enough to make me want to lightsaber my eyes out ? Not only is it not impossible , it also pretend for the best sequence of the serial yet .
I was guardedly excited about “ Cloak of Darkness , ” last night ’s installment of the uneven inspire serial , as soon as I ground out that Paul Dini was write it . It ’s not that Dini ’s interest in something is always a sign of caliber , as anyone who read DC ’s Countdown can certify to , but that did n’t end his Batman past from kindle expectation , which he then easy met , and then some .
Besides giving us the first instalment where Ahsoka became more than a collection of nicknames and plot gadget ( and yet , stick around recognizable as the same character reference ; just less annoying ) , this was also the first time we ’ve see the show ’s fresh characters seem unattackable enough to carry the serial without aid from the picture show series ’ stars ; whether it was Luminara ( Another of the show ’s noble yet troubled Jedis ) or – easy the saving grace of the Clone Wars flick -Ventress , or the somewhat tragic Captain Argyus ( voiced with lazy arrogance by James Marsters , who manage to make phoning it in still vocalise pretty cool , damn him ) , each one of them had the classical Star Wars mixing of iconic / retro calibre , charm and flaws . Mixed with a prison break story that reversed the original motion picture – Nate Gunray , the character captured in the appalling last sequence gets to act Princess Leia to Ventress ’ Luke Skywalker – and some energising aliveness directed by Dave Filoni , the resultant was something that both matt-up “ Star Wars”y , without being a slavish caricature or taking clump of the movies and dropping them in with a couple of public figure interchange to protect the innocent .

Everytime that the show is this good , I get optimistic -overly so , perhaps – that this is the sign of a new era where every episode move onwards will be this good , and everytime , I get disappointed . I should just be grateful for what I get , of course , but still ; if every installment of Clone Wars managed to get the mix of influence and originality as right as this one did , then it ’d be must - see TV . As it is , I ’ll just advocate that you all go download this when it appears on iTunes .
