The EU Patent & Trademark Office has bring out earmark applications for Apple ’s Lightning connective , report Patently Apple . But what ’s interesting about them is that they explain how Apple had to purchase the trademark from motorbike maker Harley - Davidson .
Turns out that the hallmark , as owned by Harley , covered all kinds of items , from motorcycle electric parts , protective helmets and turn sign , to TV set , estimator plot programs and eye glasses . Apple has succeeded in gain ground a “ partial carry-over ” of the Lightning trademark — which means that Harley probably still has rights use the Lightning name for motorcycle - related products .
