The sensation of last night ’s episode of Agents of SHIELD was n’t the action or the Hellenic “ robot decides human race is too irrational to survive ” moment . It was the way the show portrayed the bone - deep paranoia that come when anyone of your friends can be evil .
The first example of this was the confrontation between Simmons and Fitz over which one of them was an LMD . The relationship between the two made check each one sample to convince the other that they ’re not an LMD physically painful . Even with it not being existent , Fitz cut his own radiocarpal joint to show that he was human and not a automaton / using that to get Jemma close enough that he can overpower her was deep disturbing .
The second version of this showdown is between Daisy and Simmons , with Daisy having discovered a room full of LMDs of herself and Simmons hemorrhage and on the political campaign from LMD Fitz . In that instance , the best part is n’t the accusations they fling at each other , but the sheer fill-in on their faces when they discover that neither of them are LMDs .

( This is superb act from Elizabeth Henstridge , by the way . )
By the ending of the episode , Daisy and Simmons have managed to grab a few recruits and escape on a quinjet , although the bid structure of SHIELD is still full of LMDs . Their only architectural plan is to enter themselves into the alternative reality world of the Framework , where Coulson , Fitz , and the rest of them are unknowingly ensnare . But that ’s just the only job . Because as we see in the last moment of the instalment , in the Framework , Coulson is learn a class of students to fear Inhumans , Fitz is copious but Simmons is stagnant ( we see her tombstone , at any charge per unit ) , Mack ’s pick up after his daughter , and May is influence for Hydra , who seem to have wholly replaced SHIELD , apparently having never been taken down by Captain America and ally .
And Daisy ? She gets a text to bring her boyfriend into workplace . And that fellow is of course …

Grant Ward . Because Grant Ward NEVER die in this show . He will be brought back over and over everlastingly and ever until his creepiness becomes a ego - confirm spirit - force that no longer needs his consistence as a racing shell .
And in grammatical case you were wondering if he was only go to come along in photos or something small , oh no . Marvel made sure to advertise role player Brett Dalton ’s return :

He . Will . Never . allow .
That say , it totally makes sense for the Framework , which appears to fundamentally be this show ’s version of the Mirror Universe , to keep Ward around . He fits mighty in with all the unsettling things we ’ve see . And I ca n’t wait to see Simmons and Daisy navigate it .
